“I don’t know what I would have done if I couldn’t get you back. "I was so scared,” Colbie blurts out before Matt is even finished drinking. fellas is it gay to resurrect your best friend.specifically my bullshit about the function of magic.Alternate Universe - Dungeons & Dragons.Overall, the writing is still great and something that pulls you in long term.Stranger_aeons Fandoms: Radio Silence (Webcomic) However, this is a minor issue, and at the end it’s something easily fixed for future arcs by trimming the duration. The fact the conflict continues for such a long duration begins to make the character reactions feel somewhat repetitive, and the drama loses some of its luster. For example, Samantha’s arc lasts for a long time despite most of the characters, even Shy, having caught on to her intentions. That being said, the pacing does occasionally have issues in how slow it goes. Both aspects are blended well together, too, due to the dialogue being well-written to sound like actual unique people who have ups and downs. However, the comic includes plenty of fluff moments, like Colbie buying a cat guitar, that help balance the drama out and give the comic an overall light-hearted and inviting tone. Overall, this gives the drama a great balance and shows how the characters connect. Additionally, even conflicts that are tied to one specific character, such as Wren’s issues with Conibear, are tied back into the story by affecting the whole group. The conflicts have a great mixture of scale, as every scenario affects the characters individually while also affecting the group as a whole. Story Writing & Pacing: In general, the writing for Radio Silence is excellent. Overall, these elements serve to bring the world to life for the purposes of the story and offer a fantastic, cultural experience for the characters to partake in.Īrt by Vanessa Stefaniuk. Additionally, small reflections in dialogue and background text show off elements of the area as well, such as how the crowds will yell things in their native language. The backgrounds are seen throughout every scene at that location, and their individual nature help to express both area and culture without words. For example, every change in location has an establishing shot that emphasizes famous landmarks or unique architectural features to express the location. Amazingly, the comic does a fantastic job of showing each location as unique. Given that much of the story revolves around the band touring, the characters visit many locations. World-building: While Radio Silence is set in the contemporary world, the backgrounds and text details bring the settings to life. In the end, the characters offer a point of connection for everyone, and their well-executed nature makes the story immersive and intriguing.

Each character gives a unique perspective into the scenario, thus making every character’s “screen time” interesting to watch unfold. Wren deals with relationship woes, Shy deals with the academic pressure and his social anxiety, and so forth.

What truly sells the characters, though, is the fact that each of them has a differing conflict to tackle when it comes to fame and the band. These aspects are well-reflected in their personalities, and they allow for some great personality clashes as well (particularly between Shy and Wren). Everyone has a unique background, from Colbie’s situation with his father to Brent’s many siblings. Though Shy is often the primary focus, every band member is well-developed and interesting.
